Oculus VR has gone through a short reorganising phase, splitting its main business into two ventures and juggling the executives and their positions at the top. The company has now been split into two distinct entities: Oculus VR for PC and Oculus VR for mobile. Brendan Iribe, previous CEO of the company, has now been shifted to the PC side of the business and will take over the day to day managing of that division, leaving the Mobile branch to recently hired, ex-Microsoft technologist, Jon Thomason.
Who will fill the now vacant CEO role at the top of the pile is anyone's guess. Nobody has been suggested for the job as of yet, though presumably it will be decided by Iribe, Facebook CTO Mike Schroepfer and Thomason the near future.
It will be interesting to see if they promote someone internally, or if Facebook will look to bring in someone from another company to take over what is arguably one of the most important jobs in virtual reality right now.
"As we've grown, I really missed the deep, day-to-day involvement in building a brand new product on the leading edge of technology," Iribe said in a blog post announcing his job change up. "You do your best work when you love what you're working on."
This move will likely please Rift fans, as it has often felt that Facebook/Oculus put more time and effort into its Gear VR and mobile ventures. Hopefully this changes things to a more-gamer focused direction.
