Speaking at Web Summit 2014 in Dublin, Oculus VR CEO Brendan Iribe said that the only thing holding back the consumer release of Oculus Rift is finding a suitable input device for the virtual reality headset.
According to Iribe, the latest Oculus Rift prototype, Crescent Bay, is "largely finalized for a consumer product" and that its public launch is "months, not years away, but many months."
Oculus team experimented with different input devices for their virtual reality kit only to find that keyboard, mouse, gamepads and current gen gesture control systems are all inadequate. Apparently, this is the main hurdle delaying the headset's release. Iribe didn't explain how Oculus intends to go about fixing this problem, but we know that the company has acquired Carbon, the design team that created the Xbox 360 controller, in June 2014.
