Oculus Rift might end up in consumers’ hands much sooner than previously expected, new reports indicate.
According to TechRadar and VRFocus, "multiple sources with knowledge of the matter" have said that Oculus is planning to release a limited number of beta hardware units to the public by next summer.
Oculus has said previously that it is aiming for a $200-400 price range for the final Oculus Rift hardware. There is no telling whether this applies to the beta version as well, but the DK2 development kit is sold for $350 apiece. Currently, there are more than 100,000 Oculus development kits in the hands of developers.
