Oculus has suspended Gear VR support for Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 smartphone indefinitely.
Right now, if you try to install the Gear VR app on a Note 7 you only get a message informing you that support for the phone has been removed.
"Customer safety is Oculus' top priority. Oculus is removing all support for all Note 7 devices on the Oculus platform," reads the message. "Until further notice, Note 7 devices will not be compatible with the Gear VR. For more information, please contact Samsung directly."
Oculus's decision comes after Samsung responded to widespread reports of spontaneous battery combustion by asking consumers to "turn off their Note 7 phones" and return them to the manufacturer. Honestly, there are few things dumber than strapping an overheating time bomb to your eyes.
Samsung has permanently halted production of Note 7 following a series of internal investigations and quality control tests.
