Oh how the Elder Scrolls graphics have changed

It's rare that you have franchises spanning decades in gaming, but there are a few that have managed it. Classics like Mario have been around since the earliest days of the medium, but it's not necessarily known for its aesthetics - unless you factor in Mario Galaxy perhaps.

For a series like the Elder Scrolls however, that's very different. Whether you go back to Arena or to more recent entries like Oblivion and Skyrim, Tamriel has always been a world that was beautiful to look at, but oh how things have changed.

Comparing these games directly is an interesting prospect, since they are all based in the same world. In the Candyland Presentation, see how these same areas were rendered over the years, from pixellated DOS era aesthetics, to Morrowind's stylised aesthetics, right through to the immersive, well lit towns and plains of Skyrim.

For this writer, Daggerfall has the most nostalgic character art work. It reminds me so much of my time gaming in that era. What comes after is just icing on the cake.

What about the rest of you? Do you have a period in Elder Scrolls history that speaks to you the most?
