One Quarter Of Black Ops Revenue Is From Map Packs

After factoring in the sales of 18 million Call Of Duty: Black Ops map packs it was found that the average Black Ops player spends $76 on his game. This is more than 26% over the game's retail price.

Those figures were revealed by Activision CEO Eric Hirschberg at an investor event in Los Angeles yesterday.

For comparison, Call of Duty: World at War sold 9 million map packs at $10 each in its first 9 months in market, with an average spend of $68 per player. Over the same length of time, Modern Warfare 2 sold 11 million map packs at 15$ each.

"There are over 30 million unique players of Black Ops who collectively have amassed, incredibly, more than 2.3 billion hours of play," Hirschberg said. "To put that number in perspective, that's more than a quarter of a million years of play and that means our millions of fans spend more time per day on Black Ops multiplayer than they do on Facebook."

Activision-Blizzard's recently announced Q2 financial results have shown revenue of $1.14 billion, 37% of which was generated by digital content.
