Oops. Giant Mortal Kombat X patch deletes save games

Bugs with games are never fun, especially when you pre-ordered the title and potentially even paid extra for a season pass or other downloadable content. Take the case of Mortal Kombat X, which sold its fans on extra characters and skins through its Kombat Pack that cost $30. You would imagine then that they would be even more annoyed than all of the other fans, when a giant 15GB patch was released by the developers to fix innumerable issues, only for that very patch to delete their save game!

Not only has the patch killed any progression through the story mode, but it's wiping all statistics, all character and costume unlocks and any other evidence that players have even started the game up before.

Ironically enough, one of the problems that the big update was supposed to fix was save game corruption or deletion. Whether that issue is related to the "new" one remains to be seen, but for now Warner Bros has pulled the update from Steam in an effort to prevent anyone else being affected while it figures out just what went wrong.

In the mean time, the developer NetherRealm is beavering away to try and fix the issue, but it seems unlikely at this point that anyone will be getting their saves back.

Were any of you affected by this bug? If not, be wary of downloading any future updates unless you know it's safe.
