Yesterday Peter Moore was the head of Microsoft Entertainment branch who was bragging about how Nintendo beat both him and Sony in Japan. Today, he is the new president of EA Sports who has just earned 1.5 million dollars in the process.
Moore has joined Microsoft in 2003 as Xbox and Games marketing head. Prior to that, he was president and COO of Sega of America. Now, as the new head of EA's Sports wing, Moore will be reporting directly to EA CEO John Riccitiello.
During his time as president of Sega of America, Peter Moore achieved remarkable success with their Dreamcast. But his more recent history with Microsoft's Xbox 360 is not so impressive. Moore is often criticized for the unusually high Xbox 360 failure rate -which most analysts estimate to be around 33%-. He is also criticized for falling short of his 12 million Xbox 360 sales estimate by 400,000 units.
"Peter Moore's proven record of leadership in games and sports makes him a terrific fit for heading up EA SPORTS," said EA CEO John Riccitiello. "As a partner at Microsoft and earlier, as a competitor, we've learned to respect his vision and leadership".
Moore will receive an annual base salary of $550,000, a discretionary bonus percentage of 75%, one-time bonus of $1.5 million, the option to purchase 350,000 shares of company stock and relocation-related expenses of $330,000.
Ironically, Moore successor will be former EA president Don Mattrick.
