If you're in the mood for a free game this morning, there are plenty of free to play games out there, but very few premium titles with a zero for their price tag. Pixel strategy title Kingdom: Classic is very much free today though, for a limited 24 hour period.
First released in 2015, Kingdom: Classic is an incredibly simple game with some beautiful artwork and a surprising difficulty curve. You are the King or Queen of a dead kingdom, with nought but a few gold coins to your name. However, with the right investment, you might be able to turn that around. You first hire a few local peasants and train them as archers or builders, collecting gold from their hunting or wood cutting to bring more peasants to your fledgeling camp site. You fight off a few "creep" invaders at night and continue to expand, building walls and defences and ultimately take the fight to the portals that spawn the enemies that beset your new Kingdom.
You achieve all of this with just a single command. One button, typically mapped to the down key, drops coins and depending on where you drop them, they have a different effect. Drop them on a Knight and they get stronger, drop them on a shrine and you power up your archers or walls, and so on. There are deer to hunt, farms to build and all manner of secrets to uncover.
And the whole game is entirely free for you to grab and own forever. It's meant that the game has enjoyed its biggest player spike ever, hitting a whopping 63,000 last night.
If you enjoy the base game though, we'd thoroughly recommend purchasing the upgraded "New lands" version of the game, which adds multiple islands, swappable mounts with different abilities, new towers, unlocks and plenty more secrets to find. It's also marked at 70 percent off for the next 30-odd hours too.
