In case you guys weren't aware, videogames are very popular. Adam Sandler knows that and that's why he's starring in a movie about them, which his production company put together. However this isn't like the documentaries that have been flooding on demand services for the past year, but a fictional movie whereby video games are mentioned and referenced.
Ok, so that's not the actual plot, even if it is what the trailer boils the movie down to. In Pixels, aliens think early '80s arcade games that we sent on a probe were a declaration of war, so in response, they send their greatest warriors to defeat us. Those warriors are video game characters which turn everything they touch into disintegrating pixels.
For some reason.
What follows is Adam Sandler and pals (including the ever present for a pay cheque Kevin James, and Peter Dinklage with a mullet) racing around in minis named after the ghosts in Pacman and jumping barrels thrown by Donkey Kong himself.
Sigh.
They also dress up in jump suits fitted with all sorts of great references, like "1up" and call themselves arcaders. Get it? Because games used to be in arcades, but these guys are old so that's what they think games are all about.
Pixels is set for release this summer.
