Bayonetta is a character that always seemed at odds with Nintendo's usual, cutesy, child-like imagery. Among all the Marios, Bowsers and ankle-length-dress-wearing Peaches, Bayonetta stands tall with high heels, giant cans and skin tight leather trousers, like she was a rejected Dead or Alive character skin.
However with Bayonetta 2 receiving such glowing praise from the press and selling quite well outside of Japan, Nintendo has unveiled a new partnership with Playboy Magazine of all companies, to help it promote the game in the US.
Known gamer and WoW high roller Pamela Horton has donned the Bayonetta 2 costume for the imagery, featuring on both the Playboy site and its main Facebook page. Adult Swim also recently aired an advert featuring the young gamer.
It's a little surprising that this has taken place after the game's official release, but perhaps Nintendo was surprised by how well the game sold overseas. Quite clearly the US likes its heroines to strut around in ridiculous sword-bladed heels sporting giant pistols.
In all fairness, it's been a long time since we had a truly badass-female hero in our games with sex appeal. Perhaps Bayonetta stands poised to become that new ass-kicking sex symbol.
