When I first evolved my Magikarp into a Gyrados after months of grinding out candies, it felt like a big achievement. His health was pretty good, he had a good moveset - Bite and Hydropump - but his CP wasn't particularly impressive. Considering the Gyrados is one of the better Pokémon in the original games, this felt like a bit of a let down.
Fortunately following the latest update from Niantic, that's no longer the case, as over night his value increased by some 400 CP. That sort of change has taken place with a lot of different Pokémon, sending people's collections into confusion for a time.
"We have made adjustments to the CP (Combat Power) of various Pokemon," Niantic said in a statement. "Some Pokemon, such as Alakazam, Rhydon, and Gengar will have their CP increased. Others will have their CP lowered. These changes will allow a more balanced and competitive battling and training experience in Gyms. We will continue to adjust the CP going forward to improve the game balance when necessary."
Of course though people weren't willing to make educated guesses or take Niantic's word for it. Dataminers at the ever vigilant SilphRoad have discovered just how big the changes were. My Gyrados for example, had his CP buffed by 20 percent, while Rhydon's went up by a whopping 52 percent.
Although there were a lot of buffs put in place - Alakazam had an increase of more than 60 percent - there were a lot of nerfs too. Blastoise and Golduck took big hits, as did Metapod, Jigglypuff, Ditto and Seel.
