First person Pokemon battling. It's something anyone that grew up with the Japanese sensation has dreamt about and now it's starting to look that bit more possible, thanks to virtual reality. Using an Oculus Rift DK2 and a Leap Motion controller, one developer has created a small demo which sees players throwing pokeballs with their hands and commanding their pocket monster to fight on their behalf with voice commands.
Sure it's a little limited right now, with only one area and a single pokemon to fight with and against, but the stepping stones are falling in to place. Granted, Game Freak and/or Nintendo will likely crack down on the developer as it's not a fan of people making games from its IP, even if they are freely available.
The concept should give Nintendo a heads up though, that this sort of game, perhaps in real time would be utterly amazing. While the battling system in the Pokemon games is deep, it's become a numbers game. Something like this could turn it back into the uncertain brawler that we all played growing up.
And make it a lot more exciting to look at.
What do you guys think of this sort of Pokemon game? Would you be interested in playing a full version?
