If you downloaded Pokémon Uranium last week, you were one of 1.5 million people who did so, making it perhaps the most popular Pokémon fan game ever made. However getting a hold of it now is a little harder, as the official download links have been removed. While the creators haven't been forced to stop distributing it, they can feel the heat of Nintendo's lawyers at their feet, so have decided to get ahead of them and stop offering download links for the game.
"We have been notified of multiple takedown notices from lawyers representing Nintendo of America. While we have not personally been contacted, it’s clear what their wishes are, and we respect those wishes deeply," the developers said in a statement, by way of explanation.
They later clarified that Nintendo had not contacted them directly, as some had incorrectly assumed. This was more of a precautionary measure.
It should be noted however, that since the .exe is out there in the world, fans have been sharing it via other sources since the game was released, so getting hold of the game shouldn't be too difficult if you look around.
Those who have the game already (or find it some other way) can also expect updates from the developers and patches, adding as many as eight new Pokémon in the coming months, as well as improving on the online battle and trading features, which will continue to be supported.
