PopCap, the studio famous for several top quality casual games such as Bejeweled, Zuma, Peggle and Plants Versus Zombies has decided to move on to developing their own "AAA console titles".
The news came about through a job listing posted by EA seeking a software engineer with console experience. The ad revealed that the game will be powered by EA’s Frostbite 2 engine. The required qualifications include a working knowledge in client/server architecture, implying that the game will have a multiplayer component.
"This is a great opportunity to join a small, highly energized team creating a game with PopCap's signature humor and charm," the job listing reads.
Frostbite 2 engine powers Battlefield 3, Need for Speed: The Run and Medal of Honor: Warfighter. In addition to PopCap’s undisclosed game, the engine will also power Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel, the next Command & Conquer, the next Mass Effect, Battlefield 4 and Dragon Age III: Inquisition among other top EA titles.
