In an unusual course of events, Microsoft introduced HDMI port to Premium Xbox 360 without announcing it. Instead, gamers discovered it when they got their new consoles.
The manufacture date for the console with HDMI port was listed as July 4 and the documentation provided for the console made clear mention of the new HDMI port.
HDMI have been available in Xbox 360 Elite version only and it is still absent from the core version. Some analysts believe that it would be cheaper for Microsoft to produce one motherboard for all its Xbox 360 consoles instead of maintaining two separate production lines; but then, other analysts believe that Microsoft is about to cut off the core version altogether.
When asked, a Microsoft spokesman confirmed that they "are offering an HDMI port for Xbox 360 simply as another choice in Xbox 360 owners' games and entertainment experience. Retailers are gradually introducing HDMI-enabled Xbox 360s into the channel to meet demand."
