Although its game might not have been built from the ground up with VR in mind, the maker of Project Cars, Slightly Mad Studios knows that there is a real lack of high-end, AAA racing in virtual reality right now, so jumped the gun on its competitors and added HTC Vive support for its racing sim.
Not only does this VR patch make it possible to play on the Vive though, but the game itself has been given a number of VR-centric optimisations.
For starters, there's a new, hands free interaction with the user interface, letting you use gesture or head motions to interact. Photo mode now works perfectly, letting you get down and take the perfect shot of your ride whether static or in-motion.
Graphical effects like Depth of Field and Crepsucular rays look like they're supported too now and there's much better rendering for trees, dirt and rain while in VR.
"We've also implemented the often-requested VR mouse support, Gaze control support, and the ability to seamlessly swap between them and use them along with Custom Controller and Gamepad support," said Slightly Mad's StephenIRL on Reddit.
These are some pretty exciting additions that should give HTC Vive owners a massive amount of extra VR content to to enjoy. What would you like to do most in Project Cars VR?
