The main draw for Microsoft's upcoming Project Scorpio is its ability to run games at 4K resolution, but that doesn't mean that there are no reasons for you to get it if you don't have a 4K TV.
According to Windows Central, games that support 4K resolution will also look nicer on 1080p screens, thanks to Project Scorpio's supersampling technology. Even when running a 1080p screen, Project Scorpio renders the scene at full 4K resolution internally, then use this info to more detailed 1080p frames with sharper edges and better shadows.
Project Scorpio will also be able to run non-4K games with fewer framerate drops and without resolution downscaling.
Project Scorpio will launch during the holiday season. It will support HDR, augmented reality and 4K gaming.
