Sony has detailed the PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4 upgrade program.
Under the limited-time program, gamers who buy select PS3 titles will be able to download a PlayStation 4 digital copy of the same game from the PlayStation Store at a discounted price of $9.99.
The program supports physical disc and digital download versions of four games: Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, Call of Duty: Ghosts, or Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
Physical disc copies of the aforementioned titles will come with a redeemable code that can be used in the PlayStation Store to get the promised discount. The PS3 game disc has to be inserted for the downloaded PS4 copy to work. The all-digital route is much simpler with no code redemption and no disc checks. Players who purchase any of the supported titles through the PlayStation Store will simply find the corresponding PS4 version available for purchase at the discounted price.
Assassin's Creed IV and Watch Dogs will be available in the program until January 31st, 2014 while Battlefield 4 will be available until March 28th and Call of Duty: Ghosts will be available until March 31st.
