Although it's still a ways away from topping the most popular console generation ever, the current-gen is doing rather well. Between the Xbox One and PS4, around 60 million units have been sold according to a statement made by EA Games CFO Blake Jorgensen, at a recent chat at the Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference.
This would make sense considering EA announced back in January that both units had shipped 55 million between them, so clearly both systems are still being adopted at a decent rate.
There was no mention in his breakdown of how the Wii U is doing, but we would speculate that it's around the 15 million mark at this point, since the last estimates we heard in 2015 put it at around 12 million. It may take some bigger titles like Star Fox Wii U or the next Zelda to really tip that system into competition again - though we doubt it or the Xbox One will be able to catch the PS4 at this point, which looks to have stolen away with this generation.
Nintendo is already looking forward to its next system, currently codenamed the NX. It is expected to be a combination of portable gaming system and more traditional home console, possibly with expanded streaming and backwards compatibility.
Which of the current-gen systems do you own?
