Remember the early days of this generation of consoles when Microsoft and Sony were back and forth with how many each of them had sold? There were numbers flying around and accusations over some figures being shipped versus sold and back and forth and all over the place.
Those days are long gone now though. The Xbox One is not going to catch up to the PS4, which is good news for Sony as the PlayStation is once again one of its most profitable divisions. It's now being reported that it's shifted as many as 30 million of the systems.
What's perhaps more impressive though as EG points out, is that this figure was achieved two months before that of the PS2, the most popular home console of all time. It will be interesting to see if the PS4 can one day eclipse it, and the upcoming backwards compatibility with certain games from that PlayStation 2 era will certainly help that.
Sony has also been cutting prices for the PS4 in countries like the UK, really helping us forget that the PS3 was so outpriced by its competitors last generation.
Of course being the cheapest hasn't helped Nintendo this time around. Although the Wii U is a much loved console by many owners, it just hasn't captured the imagination of the mainstream gaming population, so now Nintendo will look to the NX to turn things around.
