Sony has delayed the N. American launch of the long awaited PSP Firmware update 2.0 until the week of August 15th.
Just as PSP US owners were preparing themselves for the promised web browsing and other firmware 2.0 additions, a Sony spokesperson has confirmed that the North American edition of Firmware 2.0 won't be available until August 15. This raises some questions about earlier claims by Sony that the N. American 2.0 would be identical to the Japanese version released last month. It has been a fear of some PSP owners that firmware 2.0 may limit their ability to use the console for other purposes such as playing custom made games.
Firmware 2.0 will include a web browsing feature which will allow owners to tap into various free wireless hot spots in order to access the Internet. Other features include enhanced video and audio playback, photo sharing options, broader network connectivity and a customizable interface to suit each user's personal style.
