Psyonix releases screenshot of Rocket League's first free map

It's fair to say that Rocket League has been a monumental success, with millions of copies sold and even a few weeks after launch, it still has a consistent 80,000+ people playing at almost all times. However that is unlikely to stay that way if the game is never updated, which is why developer Psyonix is working on paid for and free DLC.

Much like Turtle Rock with its Evolve FPS monster hunting title, Psyonix will be giving away all maps for the game so that it doesn't segment the community, so the first free update for the game is all about a new map.

It's called the Utopia Coliseum and as you might expect, there's a few Roman motifs in there, with a curved crowd around one side of its circumference. The first image released doesn't have the usual dome walls and ceiling, but that is likely being added soon as the map isn't quite finished just yet.

This one is based - at least loosely - on the original Utopia map on the game's prequel title, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars. Other inspired maps are said to be in the works, as well as new cars and upgrades, though those latter parts will be paid for DLC.

The tweet issued by Psyonix suggests that the new map is coming in a few weeks time and will be freely available to PC players, and those on the PS4 who bought the game or received it free over PS+.
