Any event held at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center would not necessarily attract most of you but when the occasion is QuakeCon and the host is iD Software, you might reconsider. This year it's the 10th installment of the popular event and both iD and Activision had plenty of news to keep the queuing attendees happy.
Activision was the first to give us a glimpse of things to come with the announcement that Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil is coming to XBox and the publisher had the footage and images to prove it. Although no release date has been set, it was encouraging to find out that Nerve Software of Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War experience, were helping iD out in the developing of the expansion. Expect a similar enhancement by the expansion pack as that offered by its PC counterpart.
The other piece of interesting, if not entirely unexpected, news had to do with the much hyped Quake 4 which is currently under development for XBox 360 and PC. Details of the multiplayer modes supported by the game were revealed and we were relieved to find out that capture the flag, arena and deathmatch have all made the cut. According to Raven Software, the multiplayer mode of Quake 4 will bring back fond memories of the way things used to be i.e. Quake III Arena.
Quake 4 is expected to be a launch title for XBox 360 so it is unlikely that a PC version will be released before then.
