Real football teams are getting into Esports

Or soccer. I know that's what you guys call it, but for everyone else it's Football, so let's run with that .

German Football team, VfL Wolfsburg has started its own Esports team, playing, you guessed it, FIFA. That means that a professional football team, one of the better ones out there in-fact, is now hiring Esports players to become part of its club.

English player Dave Bytheway is now officially employed by the German team and will, as part of his contract, be required to wear official team jerseys when playing, whether streaming or taking part in an official tournament.

He didn't have to move aboard fortunately for him, but he has travelled around a fair bit for his favourite game so far. He visited the FIFA world cup last year, representing England and has also travelled to Las Vegas, New York and Rio de Janerio to take part in various cups and tournaments there.

Although this represents the first time a major professional team has hired on Esports players, Bytheway doesn't think it will be long before the likes of the British Premier League begin hiring on players.

"It's absolutely massive for me the fact that a team like Wolfsburg have gotten involved with gaming," Bytheway said in an interview with the BBC.

"It was just something I was doing at home to start with, just playing my friends and wanting to be the best out of them, and all of a sudden I'm a part of a football club."

Maybe these guys should hire some Rocket League players too. It's close enough, right?
