Red Dead 2 will make America great again

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most hyped games in history and all we've seen so far are a few screengrabs, some artwork and a short in-engine trailer. The actual content of the game remains somewhat elusive, but it sounds like Take Two is going to use the game to calm some of the political fear in the U.S. at the moment.

"I think the times are right for a big, sprawling, optimistic view of America again," said Take Two head, Strauss Zelnick (via VG247). He wants to introduce real "emotional depth," to the game, making it a much more engaging experience than its prequel.

He made these statements at an MKM Partners event this week, where he talked up the game and its genre, highlighting how westerns are not common in gaming.

"We took a different point of view, which is that very occasionally westerns capture the imagination of the public. When we launched Red Dead, it did. And those times were right for that. And I think the times are right for a big, sprawling, optimistic view of America again. And that’s not meant to be cute."

He has a point too. There is something about the American frontiers, the lawless towns where everything's possible and everyone has potential. That's not often how it feels nowadays and especially in these turbulent times where everyone remains uncertain of the future.

Perhaps some Red Dead is just what we all need. Unfortunately this game isn't coming until the fall of 2017.
