Nintendo has commented on the recent speculation surrounding the new Legend of Zelda title. With a statement that does not clearly deny any Revolution functionality for the new Zelda game, the Japanese gaming giant has suggested that the NGC story on the game was nothing but pure speculation.
The full statement by Nintendo, given to EuroGamer, claims: Nintendo have made no new announcements regarding The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. We can however confirm that the game is still in development and that it will launch on Nintendo GameCube in 2006. It is obvious that the company is not committing itself to any Zelda feature but just that it claims that it has not given NGC any inside information on the much anticipated, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
Just as 2006 has dropped anchor and gamers are preparing for the console carnage that is expected to ensue, Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, has spoken to Yahoo Japan about the upcoming Revolution console.
In the past few months the heads of Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony have all been doing the rounds about their next-generation offerings. Most gamers have read, in wonder, as Bill Gates seems to throw fit after uncontrollable ADH fit when X360 is mentioned; some have even been thrown into severe depression by Kutaragi-san and his price predictions for the PS3 which suggest that mounting our own space adventure may be cheaper than actually playing one on his console.
But Mr. Iwata has decided to restore the balance and with it our faith in console manufacturers as he has confirmed that his company's Revolution console will truly be the cheapest next-generation machine when he decides to launch it. According to the Nintendo bigwig, Revolution will be available for under the price of an XBox 360 core system, currently retailing at USD 299.
Nintendo news however, does not stop at Mr. Iwata's lips and NGC magazine claims to have uncovered the reason behind the delay of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. To those of you not familiar with the recent news saga of Zelda, a possible idea for another game, we will recap below:
The story so far:
-In August Nintendo confirmed that Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be delayed at least until April 2006, since developers needed to get to work on adding: ...some incredible new elements... to the game. Many unconventional minds thought the delay suggested that the game would skip GameCube and go straight to Revolution...
-In November 2005 Nintendo had to rush to deny any plan to release a Zelda movie as had been suggested by Mexico's official Nintendo magazine.
- Later in the same month Nintendo also denied any plans to skip a GameCube version of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
All this brings us, neatly, to the new revelation on Revolution Zelda which, it is claimed, will support the new console's unique controller. According to NGC, once the game is loaded onto Revolution, players will be given the option to play using the controller which will enable many features. No one mentions exactly what those features will be but Nintendo seems to be a big mystery right now as there is no launch date for the game, the console or any actual price-tag for Revolution.
