Rogue Trader DLC sees you purging your own ship

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is a game that fully embraces the darkness of the far future, and it's now getting a DLC that explores that even further. Void Shadows will take place on your own void ship as you seek to purge it of an insidious Genestealer Cult. Joining you on this mission will be some deadly new allies, to help the process along.

News in brief

  • Rogue Trader's DLC will take place on your own ship
  • New allies and enemies will be introduced
  • DLC releases in August

You might be more familiar with the Space Marine side of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, along with the endless war aspect. Less well known but just as integral to the setting are the rogue traders. Representing the push into the unknown, rogue traders are the scouts of the human Imperium, and often place themselves on the line between Imperial faith and heresy, finding themselves in strange new places, seeking profits and glory in equal measure. Rogue Trader places you in the shoes of one of these hardy souls as they explore further into the murky depths of the universe.

But it's your trusty void ship that's the arena for adventure in Void Shadows. A Tyranid Genestealer Cult has infiltrated your Grand Cruiser, and your job is to, understandably, burn them out. Joining you on this mission is a member of the Emperor's Inquisition, and a Death Cult Assassin, a melee-focused cultist who's more than happy to dive into blessed combat and reap a terrible harvest for the Corpse Emperor.

Also visible in the trailer are a score of Slaaneshi daemons, being merrily slain by the Death Cult Assassin, so expect to see them show up at some point during the DLC.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, true to its source material, is not a game for the faint-hearted, and the Steam page makes that very clear, warning players of the following:

"This game contains scenes and texts some people may find disturbing. They are not graphically detailed and presented from an isometric point of view, and most of them occur episodically. However, we consider it our duty to inform our players about them. You may see depictions of blood, gore, dismemberment, torture, slavery, and kidnapping in this game. It also contains textual descriptions and mentions of abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse, sexual assault, self-harm, suicide, cannibalism, and miscarriage. Player discretion is advised."

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Void Shadows releases on August 8.
