Rust developers also working on Minecraft-like rollercoaster game

The guys at Facepunch have been very busy for the past couple of years. Still continuing to do well off of copies of Garry's Mod, they began work on Rust, the ambitious survival title that saw gaming turned on its head for a while as everyone ran around naked, capturing other players in make shift prisons and having their stuff stolen while they were offline, no matter how impressive the doors on their fortress were.

However that isn't all Facepunch has been developing as of late. It's also been working on a project called Chunks, which looks to be one part Minecraft, one part Rollercoaster Tycoon.

Its a voxel, block-based world, hence the Minecraft look and feel to the whole thing, with TNT blocks that you can throw around from on high to countour the land. But that's just one of many wand-based commands that players can use. If they pick up the more constructive ones, they can begin building looping rollercoaster tracks, which they can then ride on within minutes.

While not explicitly stated in the latest gameplay video, this looks very much like a virtual reality title. It has floating menus, nuanced wand control within the 3D space. Although this game doesn't really look like anything new - in-fact it's far less pretty than stock minecraft as it stands - the roller coaster building element is quite exciting.

Though this isn't the only developer doing something like that for VR (if indeed that's what it is). When commercial hardware launches next year, expect several experiences that allow you to build and ride your own rollercoasters.
