Watch Dogs’s senior producer, Dominic Guay, revealed that his team is working with a security firm to make sure that all in-game hacking is credible.
Watch Dogs is an open world action game featuring a protagonist who uses his smartphone to hack electronic systems to obtain confidential information and control machines and PCs. With hacking at the heart of the game, Ubisoft wanted to make sure everything the player does was as close as possible to real-life.
"We're working with Kaspersky Lab, a big security firm," said Dominic Guay. "They have really hardcore experts there on hacking. We send them some of our designs and we ask them feedback on it, and it's interesting to see what gets back."
"Sometimes they say, 'Yeah, that's possible, but change that word,' or, 'That's not the way it works,'" he added.
Guay believes that this approach protects Watch Dog from falling into the trap of "Hollywood hacking" and makes it more relatable to real-life.
