Sega has expanded the capabilities of its Genesis Classics collection ROM title with a bunch of new features which make it much more functional in the modern age. Alongside adding a new VR mode for retro gaming on a virtual CRT TV, you can now enjoy online multiplayer, so you and your friends around the world can battle through Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and Sonic 2, without having to sit in the same room together.
If you're wondering whether your favorite game supports the new features, you only have one question to ask yourself: Did it support local multiplayer? If the answer is yes, then it supports online multiplayer now too.
To celebrate this new, free update, Sega released a mashup music video featuring many of its classic characters and a chiptune track that brings together all of the classic sounds from those games.
Another neat new feature of the update is that it adds multi-region support for a variety of different ROMs. If there was a major difference between games released in different parts of the world, you can now try them out yourself. See what the Japanese version of Sonic 1 was like, or see why PAL games were called Mega Drive titles instead of Genesis.
You can even mirror games to make them more intriguing for those who have mastered the classics, or try out a challenge mode to give the old games a new twist on the typical formula.
