Although most would consider the arsenal of Serious Sam, the protagonist from the Serious Sam series, as plenty powerful in its own right - nuclear cannonballs anyone? - but Croteam doesn't feel that way. In fact, in Serious Sam VR, the wave shooter virtual reality take on the classic shooter franchise, Croteam has now introduced character skills for Sam, so that when he's feeling a little overwhelmed by all the screaming, headless, bomb-carrying denizens of his most hated enemy, he can do something about it.
"For the first time in series history Sam is not limited by his weapon handling skills and is able to annihilate even bigger alien armies thanks to the all new Skills and Power-Ups update," Croteam said in a Steam post.
The new update for the game adds a skill-tree of various unlocks and power ups, that offer everything from new orbital weaponry and tactical lasers, to bullet-time slow downs and explosive ammunition. There are spawnable helper creatures and armaments you can use too, including turrets, spiders and quadcopters with more planned to be unlockable in the future.
You'll need to beat certain waves and level up to grab all the unlocks, but that's half the fun of playing these sorts of games.
Serious Sam VR is available on Steam now for $40.
