Seven years after release, the last Halo 3 Easter egg has finally been discovered.
Several years ago, during one of Bungie's "Mail Sack" Q&A sessions with its fans, a team member revealed that "There is one Easter egg in Halo 3 that I don’t think anyone has found – I stumbled across it in code a while back. It only happens on a specific day… so good luck."
Later on, Bungie’s Adrian Perez inadvertently revealed that the Easter egg had something to do with the game's loading screen. When asked about his proudest moment at Bungie, Perez replied that it was "Showing my wife the Easter egg I put in the Halo 3 loading screen for her – the one that nobody has found yet."
Not long after that, gamers found out that when both thumbsticks are held down in the loading screen, the screen zooms out slightly to give a wider view of the Halo ring. This served no known purpose until a group at TeamBeyond.net managed to do so on the correct date.
If you hold both thumsticks down in Halo 3's loading screen on December 25th, the screen zooms out to reveal a wider view of the Halo ring with an inscribed message from Adrian Perez to his wife: "Happy birthday, Lauren!"
