As much as gamers of all kinds might look at King's creations and roll their eyes, there's no denying that match three games like Candy Crush are incredibly popular. More to the point, Candy Crush is incredibly popular, as more than three years after its release, millions of people still play, battling through level 1,000+ and more as they drag and drop, hoping the random number generator does them a few favors.
Not that unlike the rest of the world's gamers, we just pretend we have a story or another player to beat to make it matter.
Still, perhaps Candy Crush's time in the sun is over, as PopCap is back with its latest attempt at the match-three genre, Bejeweled Stars.
Based on the same principle as the original Bejweled, Stars adds all sorts of features that helped make Candy Crush so addicting, whilst also iterating on the process.
It's added characters like Felis the StarCat and Corvus the StormCrow, giving players some sort of reason to be tapping and dragging around jewels. There's also levels and unlocks, level ups and upgrades, all of which while common in other games, comes straight from the King addiction peddling mechanics that have earned it so many millions.
That's why it's available for free. You can grab it on iOS or Android from their respective stores.
