A new video of the upcoming Sonic Forces has been released, showing Sonic's first return to Green Hill Zone in what could be a step back in time to the very first Sonic game released in 1991.
The background and foreground look very faithful to the experience, though are obviously a little more detailed than they were nearly 30 years ago. The grass is thick and lush, the cloudy sky beyond has much more going on and Sonic himself has some shadows where in the past he was just a flat blue.
He has new abilities too. There's the spin that became so popular following the second game, and there are jump dashes too. Both of those moves come in handy when tackling the level's basic robotic enemies.
For fans of classic Sonic gameplay though, the whole thing looks very much like what they played as kids, so Sonic Forces look set to offer some truly nostalgic gameplay, while trying to recapture what it was about the original trilogy of Sonic games that people enjoyed so much.
Over the past few years, Sonic hasn't had the easiest of times. Although some games have been well received, it's been a long time since a big group of fans really loved a Sonic game. Sonic Forces will look to change that when it's released later this year. It will likely do so alongside Sonic Mania, a similarly retro-looking title.
Are you guys excited for them?
