The Sonic the Hedgehog live action movie is bizarre to look at. The trailer for it dropped just a few days ago and though most people seem to enjoy Jim Carrey's campy rendition of Dr. Robotnik/Eggman, the design of the titular hero has people very confused and concerned. Not only does he look nothing like the character from the games or TV shows, but he looks like he's fallen deep into the uncanny valley. Fortunately, then, the director of the film has promised a redesign is underway.
Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear... you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be... #sonicmovie #gottafixfast

Fans have been rather excited about this promise, suggesting that a simple change to some larger eyes, and committing to either a chunkier design (like the early-90s Sonic) or the leaner one found in later games, would be fine, but the middle ground they went with just didn't work.
The question remains, however, how much can be done in the time that's left. The movie is set to be released on November 7 and there will need to be time for distribution, press screenings and actually printing the film for cinemas. That maybe leaves a couple of months to make alterations, which isn't a lot of time to adjust the look of the main character in the movie.
With recent examples of decent recreations of 2D characters like Detective Pikachu, though, fans are hopeful it can be done right.
What would you like to see them do to Sonic to fix the look?
