We have a brand new trailer showing off the 2D action in the upcoming retro-Sonic title, Sonic Mania. It gives us a look at the production process for building the classic Sonic look and bringing him back into two dimensions. He'll be bringing his friends too, as Sonic, Tails and Knuckles will all be playable as single or cooperative two player characters.
Sonic Mania is looking to return to Sonic's roots in the 2D, side-scrolling world where Sonic is most a home. You'll make your way through a variety of environments inspired by the original series, as well as entirely new ones, always on the hunt for Robotnik and his robotic servants who you must free from their protective prisons.
The trailer highlights the retro, hand-drawn process for crafting a new Sonic game with a look that's straight out of the '90s and gradually builds it up to showing the game in all its fast paced glory. Characters and settings will be familiar, but that's not to say that there won't be the odd boss or level that turns things on its head.
There's plenty of old and plenty of new in the upcoming Sonic Mania. It's now slated to go on sale on August 15 on Xbox One, PS4, Windows PC and Nintendo Switch.
