The definitive edition of Sega's latest greatest Sonic game (and arguably only decent Sonic game since the '90s), Sonic Mania, is getting a re-release under the banner of Sonic Mania Plus. It will bring with it all of the action of the 2017 release of Sonic Mania, as well as add in two new playable characters, a refresh of some familiar zones and levels, competition and time attack mode updates and special physical extras in the box itself.
Sonic Mania comes with the same great Sonic gameplay of the original Mania, but now includes Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel as playable characters. They can join in on the "Encore" mode with their other animal pals, where veterans of the game can play through previous levels with a few twists to make them fresh again. There's also some remixed classic levels from past Sonic games included to experiment with the new characters in.
Competition and time attack modes have been updated to allow for four player races, letting you compete with friends to see who can get through the levels the quickest or with the most coins.
A physical-release of the game comes with a 32 page art book, a Sega Genesis-style reversible cover and a holographic case.
Sonic Mania Plus is available now to pre-order on Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch and will release officially on July 17.
