Sony has had a rough time in the past decade or so, with many of its most profitable businesses, like the TV and smartphone markets, taking big hits as international competition increases and the Japanese company struggled to remain relevant.
Still, with a new CEO last year it's becoming far more streamlined and now Shuhei Yoshida, current president of Sony Worldwide Studios believes that 2015 will be the company's biggest year since the late 90s, mostly thanks to the PlayStation brand.
"The industry’s focus has narrowed too much," Yoshida said in an interview with Bloomberg. "Can we continue producing interesting new products? That’s become a real concern."
It's this, he said, that has been key to the PS4's success. So far it's sold 19 million units worldwide, compared with just 11 million Xbox Ones. This is a big turnaround from the last generation, which until near the end of it, saw Sony far behind Microsoft and Nintendo, releasing its hardware late and with too high a price tag.
He also claimed that the indie focus is what helped Sony to its success with the new console.
Do any of you own a PS4? Do you think that Sony has done right by its customers this generation?
