We talked yesterday about how two of the three big console manufacturers, Sony and Microsoft are looking to get in on the virtual reality headset game, well at the former's Games Developer Conference talk yesterday, a prototype called Morpheus was unveiled.
It's a virtual reality headset and headphones combo, with an HD screen (1080p). It's designed to work exclusively with the PS4 at the moment (though a PC version will surely show up sooner or later) and will give head tracking support through the Eye Camera and gesture and hand motion control through use of the Move Motion controller.
The headphones are supposedly something a bit special too, with software mods to give it the ability to simulate 60 separate audio sources and therefore deliver excellent virtual surround sound - at least that's what the Sony marketing spin says.
The fact that the Morpheus is HD and has head tracking support, puts it in the same range of abilities as the Oculus Crystal Cove prototype, though it does have a slightly reduced viewing angle of just 90 degrees, vs the Rift's 110.
If you're at the GDC over the next few days, make sure you stop by the Sony booth and fight the queues, as you'll get a chance to try the headset out.
If any of you are going, let us know what you think, especially if you've already tried the Rift. How do they compare?
