Scott Rohde, the Head for Sony Worldwide Studios America and SCEA, outlined the company's strategy for its upcoming PlayStation Vita and explained how they plan to avoid their PSP mistakes.
Rohde admitted that Sony failed to secure a strong and continues lineup of PSP games. He claimed that this was because it was too difficult to support two consoles (PS3 and PSP) at the same time. "This time around, we started planning for development [of PS Vita] about three years ago, in terms of developing for the software, and how we were going to be able to transition," Rohde promised.
"I think that there are some that argue that we may even have too much lined up at launch, but I know we've got a lot more in the works," he added.
"I think that there were too many droughts of killer titles [for PSP]. There were too many long droughts, and I think we recognized that. And we've put a serious investment into our long-term PS Vita plans, so there's a lot of stuff in the works."
While Rohde tried to blame PSP's ill fate on the difficulty of supporting to consoles simultaneously, it is interesting that this is exactly what Nintendo did during the same period with its highly successful DS and Wii.
