StarBreeze owns Payday again, announces Payday3

Payday is a franchise that has taken a bit of a nose dive in the eyes of the public in recent months, with consistent announcements from Payday 2 developer Overkill, where it added microtransactions, seemed to ignore public concerns and continued to push for a game where making money by rinsing players seemed to be the new business model.

Well now all that has stopped. StarBreeze has bought its way back into being the full owner of the Payday IP, it's killed the microtransactions in Payday 2 and has announced a sequel to the series, tentatively titled Payday 3.

Payday 2 changes will be well received by all, as that game is still incredibly popular a number of years after its release. Ditching micro-transactions will be the one everyone is pleased with, but there will also be some skill tree tweaks in an upcoming patch, which may be a little more divisive - we'll have to wait and see.

As for Payday 3, we don't know a lot just yet. We do know that the publisher behind the series, 505 Games, will retain a 33 percent of the game’s revenue, capped at $40 million. Considering how well previous Payday games have done, it should easily pull in at least that much throughout its time on sale, though that may come well into the future, as the status of the game's development is also unknown.

Are you happy to see Payday 2 overhauled? What would you like to see in Payday 3?
