Steam has hit a new concurrent players record of 27.38 million. This breaks the previous record of 26.9 million set in April this year, showing healthy growth numbers on the platform -- although typically Winter does see higher numbers due to colder weather.
Steam has grown from strength to strength in the near-20-years it's been running, and though it has increased competition in 2021 from the likes of Epic Games store, and to a lesser extent GoG and expanding Chinese markets, Steam is still the number one digital distribution network for PC gaming, and it appears to be growing still.
Steam once again beats its online concurrent users record with over 27 million users currently online.

The top selling games of the past week include major releases like Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 2042, Farming Simulator 22, and Red Dead Redemption 2. Impressively, Valve's VR Index kit has also been a huge hit in the past few weeks, although VR as a whole still makes up a small portion of the overall Steam user base.
Impressively, the new 27.38 million peak player numbers are holding strong, with several instances of that number over the past week. They're steadily ticking up by a few hundred or thousand each day, too. That suggests this trend may not be over just yet and we may see another notable peak in the coming weeks.
