Valve has begun the gradual release of a set of updates for its Steam client that the developer claims will greatly improve the platform's content delivery capabilities.
The end result of these updates, codenamed Steam 3 by Valve, is part of the company's preparation for delivering new popular content including Half-Life 2 expansion; Aftermath. The latest changes included the grouping of previous options into a neater, tabbed interface while also offering gamers a wider choice of content as well as the introduction of a-la-carte purchases.
The latest software additions to the Steam service have included the, long-awaited, Day of Defeat: Source and the, soon to be released, Rag Doll Kung-Fu project by Lionhead's Mark Healey, developed in his spare time and available to pre-order through the platform for USD 12.95.
The real test for the updates will, no doubt, be the release of the H-L 2 expansion and of Ritual's SiN Episodes series. Let's hope Valve has put the knowledge it gained from the troubled release of H-L 2 into good use.
