Although listing reviews by most helpful on Steam does prevent them from being awash with attempts to brigade the game, or washing it with negative reviews to try and harm the developer, the current situation does leave many of them irrelevant. A few months after a game has left early access, you can still find yourself reading reviews from way before then, giving the game an image that isn't representative of its current state.
To prevent that happening, Valve has implemented a new change to make is to that the reviews that show up the most are recent ones, that are also considered helpful. It also generates a "recent reviews" score and rating, so that when you try and judge how good a game is, you are basing that on how popular it is at that time, rather than what it might have been like a few months before.
All the old reviews will remain of course, you'll just need to dig through some of the newer ones to see them. Top reviews from the last 30 days will be showcased instead, which should provide a much better look at what a game is like when you're looking to buy it.
What do you think of this change? Do you think it will make the Steam reviews a bit more worthwhile?
