While Valve is making its move into the living room with Steam Machines, SteamBoy Machine team is working on the first Steam-based handheld.
"SteamBoy is the first device that allows to play Steam games on the go," reads the SteamBoy Machine's press release. "You will keep playing your favorite games at the bus, the office, the school or the doctor's waiting room."
As seen in the gallery, SteamBoy looks like a combination of Steam Controller and PS Vita. It sports two touchpads, 8 action buttons, 4 triggers, and two rear buttons. Underlying hardware specs are still undisclosed, but we know that it should feature a Quad-Core CPU, 4GB RAM, a 32GB built-in memory card and a 5" 16:9 touchscreen in addition to Wi-Fi and 3G support. It is set for release in 2015.
"SteamBoy won't be as powerful as other announced Steam Machines in the same way [the] Nintendo 3DS or PS Vita performance is not comparable to Wii U or PlayStation 4," a SteamBoy representative explained. "However, it will be possible to play the majority of current games in Steam."
We withhold our opinion until we see SteamBoy's price and battery life.
