In-case anyone in gaming wasn't aware of it, Youtube Let's Players are a big deal these days. They're the new celebrities for a new generation of gamers, expanding the influence of the entertainment genre and forging new roads in fandom. Pewdiepie is inarguably the largest of the well known Youtubers and it looks like he has begun crossing over into more mainstream entertainment and culture, with coverage from celebrity gossip rag, TMZ.
Covered as part of his trip to Los Angeles to shoot a new TV show, Pewdiepie was snapped by a paparazzi after his plane landed. The site also reported that the Let's Player had not only netted his own TV show, but had crossed several other thresholds within a few days.
His videos have now been watched a total of 10 billion times, which means if he was earning from basic advertising alone, he should have made over $10 million. However he's likely on a better rate due to his sheer size and loyal fan base and was part of the big Maker Studios deal which saw the collective sold to Disney for a whopping half billion back in 2014.
To top it all off, he's also just hit 39 million subscribers and looks to be cruising quite easily towards the 40 million mark, which would make him the first channel ever to crest that peak.
Who are we kidding, he's been ahead of the curve for a long time already. To put his numbers into context, bear in mind that the second and third biggest channels only have 23 million subscribers. Eminiem, Taylor Swift, Rihana and One Direction each have less than half of his subscribers.
