Study: Gamers Rely On Word Of Mouth The Most For Game Info

41 percent of gamers rely on world of mouth to obtain information about videogames, a new survey carried out by The NPD Group found out.

The second most important source of information about videogames is hands-on play at the home of a friend or relative, with 31 percent of gaming respondents saying this is where they get their information on games.

Unsurprisingly, magazine and online advertisements came last as gamers' sources of information, with barely 5 percent of those surveyed relying on them to make their game buying decisions.

"When it comes to developing successful games and targeting marketing and promotions, each gaming platform has its own unique challenges and opportunities to consider," commented Anita Frazier, analyst for The NPD Group.

The study also found that Playstation 3 owners represent 10 percent of all gamers and are most likely to own more than one console, with 42 percent of them owning a Wii and 34% owning an Xbox 360. 42 percent of Xbox 360 owners own a Wii as well, while 18 percent of them own a Playstation 3.Xbox 360 owners represent 20 percent of gamers.
