A website for the sequel to one of gaming history's most beloved of titles, System Shock 2, has been released by Otherside Entertainment. It's just a flickering "System Shock 3" for now, with little else to tell us about the game. There's some social network links and a mailing list form, but this is about as teasing as you can get otherwise.
Although a release of a third System Shock game would be huge news for fans of the original two, it's not surprising. Night Dive Studios, the company that has brought back a number of classic titles from the history of PC gaming, announced earlier this year that it planned to do a full remake of the original System Shock and had interest in producing a sequel.
What is surprising though is that Otherside is doing it. The company is currently working on a a successor to Ultima Underworld, expanding the universe of the classic RPG world. With that pedigree it may be a good fit for the classic franchise.
Better yet, some of the developers there even worked on the original System Shock, so it should have a number of ingredients that will fit with a new entry in the series. We'll have to see how it turns out.
