Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis for the Xbox 360 is now available at retail stores in North America with a MSRP of USD 39.99 while Friday will see its European release.
One of the oddest announcements to reach us early this year was the news that Rockstar was working on a Table Tennis game and it caused plenty of head scratching at MG HQ. Initially dismissed as a hoax, the news was eventually confirmed with many journalists screaming that political oppression had finally driven Rockstar to the edge of gaming sanity. The company was quick to respond claiming that recent... ehm, shall we say Coffee related issues had no bearing on their creative choices. We have to question Rockstar motivation however, especially since we failed to see or hear any mention of Bully during E3 2006 and we have noticed that the game has been relegated to page 2 of the Rockstar website.
Developed by Rockstar San Diego, Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis is a perfectly focused, addictive experience that features 11 playable characters from around the world, over 15 international arenas and supports up to 8 player tournaments via Xbox Live.
For all its head-scratching qualities, Table Tennis is a very straight forward and enjoyable experience which should please fans of the game and newcomers to it alike. We have to admit that, try as we may, we only managed to come up with two negative points to the game. One is that the thought of how the game would feel on Nintendo's Wii almost ruins the, otherwise excellent, XBox 360 experience and the other, that the name Ping Pong sounds like an opportunity missed for Rockstar, the possibilities would have been limitless.
The title will reach European retail shelves on May 26th, 2006 for a price of Euros 39.99, and GBP 29.99 in the UK.
